A hospital in China advertise requests for blood from healthy virgin for use in medical research.
The action gets ridicule of society as it is considered as an insult to women, such as government newspaper China Daily reported.
Peking University Cancer Hospital say they need the blood of 100 virgins aged 18 to 24 years for sex research virus (HPV), which is usually transmitted through sexual contact, according to the newspaper report.
"Collecting blood samples virgin, is in accordance with international practice is negatively controlling agent in HPV research, because it is very low risk of HPV infection among women who have never had sex."
A number of Internet users criticized the request as supporting acts cult of virginity and harassing women.
"Male is not needed, only a virgin, is this science?" wrote one Sina Weibo user, a microblogging site similar to Twitter in China and is a forum for expressing public opinion.
The hospital said the blood of virgins tend to be 'clean' and not infected with HPV.
"Collecting blood samples virgin, is in accordance with international practice is negatively controlling agent in HPV research, because it is very low risk of HPV infection among women who have never had sex," said hospital spokesman Guan Jiuping.
Terms marriage
Hospital officials believe testimony from blood donors that they are indeed still a virgin and did not perform any tests to test the truth of that statement.
Meanwhile, the number of Internet users defend the hospital as someone said on Sina Weibo, "which condemned the practice was not understood. Studying science and rational thinking first, before you criticize others."
Female virginity has traditionally been viewed as a requirement for marriage in China and is still a lot of men in China who want their wives virgin.
The growing importance of the value of virginity in the middle of the lax attitude regarding sexual relations outside of marriage causes fertile market for fake hymen and surgery to restore "virginity."
But many people in China who said the amount of pressure on women to remain virgins was a harassment and double standards.
