Although already famous King admitted nervousness in an interview with Will Gompertz.
Stephen King admits he is nervous about the reaction to the sequel novel The Shining which will soon be published.
U.S. author told the BBC he expects 95% reviewer for Doctor Sleep is a comparison between the two books.
"You face it and the comparisons it makes you anxious," he said, "because there was much water under the bridge. I was a different person."
He admitted visiting various literary websites to see what fans are saying about the book.
Now at age 65, the veteran writer said he felt the quality of his writing improved since he wrote The Shining at the age of 28.
"What a lot of people are saying, 'I'm probably going to read this book but not as good as the book is probably The Shining." But I obviously an optimist and I want them to comment after they read it, that the book was just as good.
"But what I want to hear from them is that Doctor Sleep better than The Shining."

'Love creates fear'

Speaking with BBC arts editor Will Gompertz, King said he was concerned people who read the original story about the family's experience at the Hotel Overlook Torrance when they were younger would expect the same from Doctor Sleep.
"I'm afraid of people want the same fear as an adult and it will never happen. I want to try to write adult books."
King added that people are now more difficult to produce fear because "they already know the tricks novelists and filmmakers to scare them."

But he believed he could make people afraid "in a respectable manner, if they care about the characters in the novel."
"I want readers to fall in love with these people, and care about them and it will create the tension you need. Love creates fear."
Doctor Sleep is the tale of the boy who survived the terrible tragedy in the novel The Shining.
King said he decided to write the book because "people kept asking, 'what happened to the children of The Shining?'"
In the book, Danny Torrance became a social worker who uses his supernatural skills to help the dead to the spiritual realm.
He met a little girl who also has the ability and pursued by psychic vampires who need blood children with a sixth sense for survival.
Doctor Sleep will be launched on 24 September 2013.
