Saudi cleric: driving damaging the uterus

Support the right of women to drive cars had the support of 12,000 signatures.

A Saudi Arabian cleric said driving can damage a woman's uterus and cause "clinically impaired" in their children.

Sheikh Saleh al-Lohaidan said it was responding to an online campaign to promote the right of women to drive a car.
The campaign was rolled out ahead of the October 26 program aimed at seeking lifting of the ban on women driving in Saudi.
Al-Lohaidan says women should drive a car when they are injured or their husbands were in the wilderness.
Women are forbidden to drive a car in Saudi Arabia, but there was no official ban.

But the organizers say their hashtag on Twitter has been blocked in Saudi.

'Science physiology'

"The science of physiology to mention driving the car automatically affect the uterus and pelvis pressing," said Al-Lohaidan.
"This is why we find children born to most women who always drove a clinical disorder," he added.
His comments drawing criticism on Twitter who has been a platform for some Saudi citizens to voice their comments.
"The mentality of what it's like. Guys go into space and you still prohibit women from driving," said one comment.
