FBI foils Suicide in the U.S. Capitol, Morocco Men Arrested

Washington - FBI anti-terrorist unit had foiled a suicide attack on the Capitol building or the building of the U.S. Congress. The suicide bombing was going to be done by a Moroccan immigrant.

Amine El Khalifi currently in federal custody after attempting suicide bomb attacks on the Capitol. The 29-year-old man was arrested a few blocks from the FBI at the Capitol building would detonate a bomb hidden in his vest he wore.

Moroccan immigrants had been under the supervision of the FBI. Men are living illegally in the state of Virginia, the U.S. has watched from close range and carefully for weeks before being arrested.

"Amine El Khalifi tried to detonate himself in the U.S. Capitol building," said U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride in a statement as quoted by AFP news agency on Saturday (02/18/2012).

"El Khalifi allegedly convinced that he was working with Al- Qaeda and design their own plots, targets and methods," remarked.

According to court documents, Khalifi attended a meeting in Arlington, Virginia in January 2011. During the meeting there was also a confidential source who reported to the FBI that Khalifi want to join in the effort to launch a terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

It added that Khalifi "trying to relate to an extreme group". Then on December 1, 2011, Khalifi introduced to a man named "Joseph" who is actually an undercover FBI agent.

Of communication with "Joseph" is revealed that Khalifi initially had considered a number of targeted attacks that include the U.S. military offices, synagogues and restaurants frequented by U.S. military officials. But finally he decided that the target is the U.S. Capitol building.
