Great fires that occurred in a prison Honduras has killed hundreds of inmates. More than 350 inmates at the jail died after being trapped in Comayagua fire. Honduras President Porfirio Lobo ordered an independent investigation into this tragedy.

"This will be an independent inquiry that is monitored by a team of international observers," said President Lobo reported by the BBC, Thursday, February 16, 2012.

Hundreds of dead burned and suffocated in the cell when the fire devoured the prison building. Until now not known the exact cause of this fire. Authorities are investigating all possibilities, including a deliberate or due to the power grid konsletnya prison.

"We have two hypotheses. One is that a set of prisoners burned mattresses and the other is that there is a short circuit in the electrical system," said the warden, Daniel Orellana. These fires also triggered clashes among the prisoners who tried to save themselves by security forces.

They shouted, "We will die here." The police even had to fire tear gas to quell the unrest. According to Lucy Marder, who leads the forensic services in Comayagua, to this day as many as 356 people in jail roster has not been found.

Comayagua prison itself is located about 100 km north of the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa. Comayagua prison spokesman, Jose Garcia, described the fire was like hell for the prisoners.

"We can not save them because they do not have a key and can not find the guard cells."
