India ready to launch flight to Mars

A number of workers in the Indian space research center (Isro) is completing this ambitious project.

India is preparing to launch a robotic spacecraft without a crew to the Red Planet. The launch will be done on Tuesday (05/11) This is the first carried out on the South Asian region.

If it goes well, the spacecraft is set to travel over 300 days it will reach Mars orbit in September 2014.

India's space agency chief told the BBC that the mission will demonstrate their technological ability to reach Mars orbit and carry out experiments.

Robot aircraft, named Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) will take off at 09:08 GMT on Tuesday by using an Indian-made rocket from the Sriharikota.

The country's space agency officials began counting down 56 hours from the time of the launch on Sunday (03/11).

Some observers regard the launch of MOM, also known as Mangalyaan (Mars-craft), as the latest in aerospace technology race among Asian countries such as India, China, Japan, and South Korea.
